On the November 26, 2017 at about 6:00 A.M a member of the Leeds and the Thousand Islands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police stopped 2 stunt drivers driving in tandem on Highway 401 east of Gananoque. The drivers were exceeding the speed limit by 54 km/hr.
As a result of the drivers actions the vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days.
The upset 20 and 44 year old Quebec men called 911 from the side of the road while in police presence arguing the authority to tow vehicles for stunt driving.
Leeds O.P.P. remind drivers that under provincial legislation, police officers in Ontario have the authority to impound a vehicle for seven (7) days when it is involved in a speeding offence of 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit. Your vehicle will then be immediately towed to an impound yard.
Also a reminder that non-emergency and/or prank 911 calls defer operators from answering real emergency calls. If 911 lines or responders are busy with prank or non-emergent calls, someone with a real emergency might not get the immediate help that they need.
