It’s pouring so hard in Toronto that rain is falling inside the Eaton Centre

Shoppers inside Eaton Centre found themselves in the middle of a rainstorm inside the mall amid a severe thunderstorm warning for Toronto and surrounding regions.

Water reportedly leaked into the top level of shopping centre and streamed down onto the levels below.

Environment Canada issued the warning just after 4 p.m. calling for the possibility of very strong wind gusts, heavy rain and up to nickle-sized hail. The weather agency says it is tracking a cluster of storms moving eastward at approximately 75 km/h.

Toronto police say they have received an influx of weather-related calls Wednesday afternoon, including reports of downed wires and trees.

The following areas are in the path of the storms: Milton, Burlington, Brampton, Oakville, Mississauga, Vaughan, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Toronto, Markham and Pickering.

Wind gusts could reach 90 to 100 km/h, which “can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the agency warned earlier.

People are encouraged to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
