Environment Canada issued the warning just after 4 p.m. calling for the possibility of very strong wind gusts, heavy rain and up to nickle-sized hail. The weather agency says it is tracking a cluster of storms moving eastward at approximately 75 km/h.
Toronto police say they have received an influx of weather-related calls Wednesday afternoon, including reports of downed wires and trees.
The following areas are in the path of the storms: Milton, Burlington, Brampton, Oakville, Mississauga, Vaughan, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Toronto, Markham and Pickering.
Wind gusts could reach 90 to 100 km/h, which “can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the agency warned earlier.
