Officers of the Leeds Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing an investigation into an impaired driver stopped at a RIDE check.
On November 30, 2018 at about 11:30 PM O.P.P officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check at the intersection of County Road 2 and Sharpes Lane, in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township. Officers arrested a male driver and charged him with Impaired Driving after an investigation.
28 year old Matthew HEALEY of the same Township was later released and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Brockville on December 21, 2018 to answer to his charges. Healey further faces charges under the Cannabis Act for having cannabis readily available and the Liquor Licence Act for having open alcohol.
While Leeds OPP officers do increase their number of RIDE stops over the holidays, they are reminding drivers that RIDE stops are carried out throughout the year, throughout the province as part of the OPP’s Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP).
