Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Elgin resident following an investigation into irregularities at the Town of Gananoque, the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and the Gananoque Firefighters Association.
In December 2016, the OPP received a complaint from the Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands. The request was in relation to allegations of fraud involving the former Fire Chief of the two locations.
As a result of the investigation, the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch – Ottawa Unit, has charged Gerald BENNETT, aged 60 years, with the following offences:
Fraud contrary to Section 380(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) x 15 counts;
Uttering a forged document contrary to Section 368(1)(B) of the CC x six counts;
Theft contrary to Section 334 of the CC x three counts; and with
Breach of Trust contrary to section 122 of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.
