Canadian Idle, Crime of Opportunity

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leeds County are continuing an investigation after a male took an idling vehicle.

On January 21, 2019 at about 5:45 AM, officers of the Leeds County OPP detachment were dispatched to a theft of a Ford pick-up truck on Upper Oak Leaf Road in Athens Township. With extreme cold temperatures the vehicle owner had started his truck and returned to his residence. Shortly after, the owner heard his vehicle drive away and then heard the sound of a collision in his own front yard.

A Leeds OPP officer, after an investigation arrested and charged 20 year old Cameron CHISAMORE of Athens Township with Theft of a Motor Vehicle. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial division in Brockville on February 15, 2019.

Leeds OPP Staff Sergeant Josh Kingsley said “Since leaving the keys in an unattended vehicle presents an easy target for thieves, in the interest of crime prevention, homeowners are asked to take extra precaution.”

Vehicle owners are reminded to ‘Lock it or Lose it’.
