1 killed in head-on crash southeast of Ottawa


One person is dead and another is fighting for their life after a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Avonmore, Ont., an hour drive southeast of Ottawa.


Ontario Provincial Police say a pickup truck heading east struck a tractor-trailer head-on just before 9 a.m. Wednesday on County Road 43, between County Road 14 and Fairview Road.

The adult driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, and an adult passenger was rushed to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to hospital with serious injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.

Police have not released any names, saying they’re still notifying next-of-kin.

Detours are in place at Fairview and Kyle roads, as well as at County Road 14, while police investigate the crash.
