Brockville Police Service Update - May 5th, 2017
Damage to Outside Bathrooms at the Memorial Centre
Late yesterday morning Brockville Police were called to the Brockville Memorial Centre when staff there discovered a broken partition wall and damage from a small fire inside one of the bathrooms near the ball diamonds.
At 8:45 Thursday morning, staff observed two male youths aged 16 and 17 years of age exiting the damaged bathroom and wondered how they were able to gain entry since the door was locked. As a result the youths were given trespass notices from the Memorial Centre.
Latest Telemarketing Scam
The Brockville area appears to be a target of another telemarketing scam in which callers are pretending to be from a collection agency for overdue accounts.
Yesterday afternoon the Brockville Police received phone calls from residents reporting callers pretending to be from Bell Mobility or acting on behalf of Bell Mobility to collect money over past due accounts. The callers to the police did not have an account with Bell Mobility and knew it to be a scam and simply hung up.
Residents who receive these calls and have questions regarding their accounts are encouraged to go in person to the Bell Mobility office or hang up and call Bell Mobility themselves. Please do not give any personal information over the phone to anyone you do not know.
Boater Warning for St. Lawrence River
As a result of the high waters on the St. Lawrence River there is lots of debris floating in the river which could pose navigational hazards.
Boaters should be mindful of their speed and wake especially in the Brockville narrows. Please keep your wake to a minimum in these areas as wakes are causing damages to docks and shoreline properties with sandbag berms around them in order to protect them
Also, The St. Lawrence Seaway Authority has imposed a speed restriction on commercial shipping vessels to mitigate the wake cause by the ship and police are asking the same of pleasure craft boaters.
