(BROCKVILLE) – When the annual Volunteer Service Awards presentation comes to Leeds-Grenville this year, it will be making a road trip to Rideau Lakes Township.
Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark has announced the second of two local recognition ceremonies for volunteers is being held on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Elgin Lions Club hall.
The first Volunteer Service Awards presentation in Leeds-Grenville is Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brockville Country Club.
The announcement was welcome news for MPP Clark, who has for several years been urging the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration’s Honours and Awards Secretariat to bring the volunteer appreciation event to Rideau Lakes.
“The community groups and Township of Rideau Lakes under Mayor Ron Holman and council have always been tremendous supporters of the Volunteer Service Awards program by nominating those who give so much of their time,” said Clark. “With such a large number of volunteers from the municipality being recognized on an annual basis, it’s fitting that we can bring the ceremony to them this year.”
Clark noted the Rideau Lakes contingent is known for its enthusiastic support for recipients during the volunteer awards presentation and expects them to turn up the volume even more with the ceremony in their community next month.
“The Volunteer Service Awards are one of my favourite events of the year,” said Clark. “It’s always a great atmosphere and a wonderful celebration of volunteers and everything they do in our community. I’m really looking forward to a special night in Elgin.”
